Let’s talk about Gold-Coated Halogen Infrared Lamps
When we build these lamps, we start with the basics: a high-purity quartz tube and a tungsten filament. But here’s the secret sauce—we add a halogen gas cycle. Why? Because without it, that filament evaporates way too fast. The gas keeps things stable, so your lamp doesn’t just burn out on you and your heat stays consistent for the long haul.
The deal with the gold coating
First off, the gold isn’t there to look fancy. It’s doing some heavy lifting. Think of it as a mirror that pushes all that infrared radiation forward. Instead of letting heat leak back into the housing, it drives it straight into your material. You get a much tighter heat footprint and things warm upfast. The quartz glass is the unsung hero here. It takes a beating from the heat but still lets the short-wave IR slide right through. Now, a word of caution. If you cram a high-wattage tube into a short space, you’re going to get an incredible amount of heat density. It’s powerful. Just make sure your power supply can handle the load and your chassis has a way to breathe, otherwise, you might start melting things you didn’t mean to.
Getting them installed and running
We use standard connectors like R7s or SK15, so you can usually just pop these in as replacements. The wiring is easy, but do me a favor:**keep the contacts clean.**If there’s any oxidation on those pins, you’ll get hot spots that kill the lamp way before its time. These are perfect for things like PET blowing, welding plastics, or industrial drying. Since they use radiation, you aren’t waiting around for the air to get warm—the surface of your part just heats up instantly. If you need a precise temperature, just hook them up to a PID controller and a fast thermocouple. One last tip:**Don’t touch the quartz tube with your bare hands.**Seriously. The oils from your skin leave invisible marks that create hot spots. When the lamp fires up for the first time, those spots can actually crack the glass. Keep it clean, and you’re good to go.
