Getting the Most Out of Industrial Halogen Heaters
If you’ve ever worked with shortwave IR, you know the deal. You’ve got a tungsten filament tucked inside a quartz tube, and it puts out an incredible amount of heat. The best part? It doesn’t waste time warming up the air around it. It just hits your target material directly. It’s fast. Really fast. Let’s talk power and voltage. We build these lamps to fit the specific footprint of your machine. If you’re running longer tubes, you’ll want a higher voltage rating so you don’t see the temperature dip toward the ends of the filament. When you go for high wattage, you get a much tighter heat density. That’s the secret to slashing your cycle times. But here’s the catch: pushing all that power into a small quartz tube puts a lot of stress on the glass. Check your mounting brackets. If they’re creating hot spots, the tube will crack. It’s as simple as that. The build quality The quartz envelope isn’t just there for show; it keeps the filament from oxidizing and lets the infrared energy slide right through without losing its punch. We use R7s or SK15 connectors because they’re easy. You can just drop them into your existing setup without a headache. They provide a tight fit, which means you won’t have to worry about arcing at the terminals. And if you’re working with thick plastics or heavy coatings, we have versions with a specialized coating. It shifts the emission spectrum so the heat actually sinks deeper into the material rather than just scorching the surface. Real-world use: PET and Drying You’ll see these most often in powder coating lines or PET bottle blowing. The goal is to hit the material with a sudden burst of energy to reach that glass transition temperature instantly. Just a heads-up: these things get hot. Like, really hot. If your cooling system isn’t up to the task, you’re going to cook your control electronics. Also, do yourself a favor and use high-temp leads. Nobody wants to deal with melted insulation in the middle of a shift.
